First off, I want to thank all of you for a great class. You made me laugh every day... even if it was because you guys were driving me crazy or busting my balls. For your final blog post I'd love if you could end the quarter by answering one final question. What is one thing you will take with you from this course out into your life?
Thanks again and have a wonderful holiday season!
EBS
Aaawwww, oh crap, I'm gonna be all teary-eyed now. :'( I can't believe class is almost over!!!! To answer your question, there are some things that I will/do take from this course and apply into the world. Whenever I see something as I walk/drive/fly/any kind of movement by something, I tend to now look at the artistic and creative side of it. Like, how is this considered art? Or, how is this useful? Or, why was this made? It was one of those things you do without really intending to do it, if you know what I mean. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I'm going to take out of this class is something that I don't do too much; voicing my opinion. Believe it or not, I always kept my opinion to myself most of the time, or I wouldn't answer a question in a class because I feared that I would be wrong. In this course,
specifically chapter 12 I believe went on to talk about how education were starting to define what was right and what was wrong, leaving no gray area or maybe. Well, it's really embarrassing to answer a question and get it wrong in front of the class, which is why I usually kept to myself unless I was confident with the answer. However, in this class, voicing my opinion was so much more easier, and it didn't matter whether I was right or wrong, nor did anyone care. I totally forgot about that. "/
Now, sorry this was hella long. I partly ranted/typed whatever was coming out of my mind. Anyway, I'm so sad that this class was ending. Now I don't have a class to look forward to. :( To anyone else reading this, for some reason :P, it was so much fun having class with you, and I hope we have another class together. :) To Erin, you are the shit, no lie. You are probably one of the best, if not the best, teachers/professors I have ever had. It needs no explanation. :P
-Scheifel Ray S. Garcia <3
Wow ... and to think, it feels like just yesterday that we were all in class for the first time and getting to know each other.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, I will take two things out of this class above anything else: A whole new aspect of thinking, and new friendships and bonds. I never realized just how deep creativity can really get. Just to talk about creativity itself, and not just whatever it is that is created, that has been a real enlightening experience. As for the bonds and friendships, I've made a couple of new friends in this class, and I've come to admire someone who goes beyond just her role as a college professor and really tries to bring us to our full potential.
Thank you for the experience Erin, you've been a great teacher, an even better comedian, and above all, I can consider you a friend.
-Matt Diaz
I will take away a sense of interconnectedness. The government, art, society, consumerism and pretty much everythaaaaang is connected for better or for worse. There are lots of examples. ("Deepthroat", Women's Lib, Nixon's disgrace) I would like to thank everyone who participated in class so I wouldn't have to burden you with my screechy voice. I am glad a college prof took the time to explain critical thinking, because obviously it was necessary.
ReplyDeleteIn closing, any class where we can discuss Madonna is wicked awesome.
Wow, This class is almost over, wish it didnt end so quickly. As for what i Well take with me, I well probably apply the rules of creativity on real life issues as well as school, and papers that require you to think outside the box, Critical thinking is a must in almost all school research papers etc. Your class is truly Inspiring and i well recommend it to all college students. + 1 for being a great teacher :D
ReplyDeleteThis class help me understand why and how people are creative. Also I kind of end up with an idea, every thing is creative in its own. Thinking is creative. Hanging a picture upside down or picturing cans are creative. But on the other hand, you are only creative as much as others appreciate. So even you invent the centuries invention, it can be ignored. Because there are boundaries and different perceptions.
ReplyDeleteThis class mostly thought me, how to question things. I think the whole class was about critical thinking.
I enjoyed the class, I tried my best to join the discussions. I really liked the game, knowing a stranger by just looking at her.
I would recommend the class and the teacher (Erin) :)
Happy Holidays
Well, I will definitely take the many interesting concepts of creativity that our world has for it. What I found interesting is that religion played a big role on creativity. Another concept that I will take and use in the real world is critical thinking. I really think that this process will help me to understand the WHY of others actions or simply just life.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ms. Sanders for being a great teacher!
Happy Holidays!
I really enjoyed the different aspects of creativity that I learned taking this class. I learned that there are not only different areas of creativity that I didn't think of, but there are many types of creativity that I didn't even care to know about. I was in a huge box of creativity before coming to class. And now after taking this class I believe I am out of it in a way. I had no idea that there were different views on creativity on different sides of the world and that along with the teachings of this class will be taken along with me for the rest of my life.
ReplyDelete-Brendon Gill
Ms. Erin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to teach us. This class was nothing I expected. It was also a random pick because my friend wanted me to sign up for this class with him. I end up having great time, made new friends, and didn't regret of randomly picking you. You taught me that, no matter who puts me down that I am smart in my own way. That I am creative, and that if I can go with the flow, i can over come my obstacles. I learned quite new things about society and myself, and I hope to take this new knowledge into my own passion. Even though this was a morning class, and that most people's brains aren’t working this early, you put up with it. Keep doing what you are doing, you're wonderful at it. I'll recommend you to my friends and to anyone else I meet and want to take a Creative Mind class.
I enjoyed being one of your students.
I appriciate the time that I'm in ur class. I am working too much to do well in class but you still gave me the chances to catch up. you are a great professor that I really admire. I learned many things in your class.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I will keep it for my life from ur class is I will always find for me a good things that i love to do, or think about the things that engcouge me to me wanna wake up, wanna stand up, wanna fight for that. So, i will never give up to achive what i want and what i love.
thank you so much
One thing that I will definitely take away from this class is the idea that it is okay to think outside of the box and be different. I learned that in anything you do its not really important what other people think about your work or creations, if you believe something to be creative, important, special, etc, then that is exactly what it is. I also learned that anybody can be creative, and that there is no limit or rules that define if someone is creative or not. This class gave me the confidence to be more open minded and gives me the courage to try new things in life.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe the quarters almost over. It definitely went by fast. One thing that I will be taking out of this course is just trying to see things from different points of view. Just because something isn't creative to me doesn't mean it isn't creative. I'm definitely going to be looking for deeper meanings in things and really trying to see the creative point of views for it. This class has taught me that there's more than meets the eye and has definitely showed me to be more comfortable with thinking outside the box.
ReplyDeleteThis class has really been an eye opening eperience for me.
ReplyDeleteIf there's one thing that is class taught me it's that every thing that's been created or inspired by a creation has an impact on us. The idea that something a group of people invented could influence future generations and alter the creative process of an individual. Creativity is more than meets the eye, there's so much history and connections everywhere unimaginable than I would have thought.
This class really engaged me- even at 8:30 A.M. hearing about factors that alter creativity and how it's applicable to our everyday life made me appreciate the small stuff. I have learned to be more open minded and accepting that any one with a mind can be creative.
Thanks for a wonderful learning experience, the jokes and laughs were a plus too- especially early in the morning.
I would just like to say, that this has been one of my all time favorite classes! This is my first year, first quarter, in college, and I actually had this class recommended to me by a friend! I feel that I will take a sense of awareness from this class. Strange, but because of this class I started paying attention and noticing a lot more things in a creative manner. How to figure out things & situations. I really enjoyed being in this class, and you are a wonderful, funny, inspirational teacher!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope to see you soon, and maybe even have to teach me again some day!
Have a wonderful holiday season!!
The one thing I'm gonna take away from this class into real life is to not let people tell me I'm not creAtive. Obviously I'm no super genius or amazing artist or poet, but I'm creative. I'm a good writer and singer and I'm not gonna let anyone else tell me otherwise. I like thinking out of the box and I guess "breaking the boundaries" a little. And that's okay at times. Thanks for being a greatttttttt teacher and have a Goooooooooood holiday season!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I will take away from this course is that creativity comes in several different forms, and can be accepted and rejected by many types of people. What I think is the most creative thing in the world could very well seem like something stupid to a good friend of mine. I like this because it gives us an endless debate, and forces us to explain not only to ourselves, but our peers what exactly creativity means to us. This class was great (100000 times better than the first time I took it), and I look forward to applying the lessons later in life. Time to finish my paper!!
ReplyDeleteNatsumi Nishi
ReplyDeleteMan the quarter goes by fast. I would say that I would take the idea or thought that creativity can be found anywhere. That it comes in all forms and it can be helpful or destructive. That myself personally and everyone around can be creative as well. I also liked the flow article that we had read in class so whenever I'm in the "zone" so to say I would think of that article and it actually did help me think of ways to be more productive with my time.
I really enjoyed this class a lot. Being an animation major I create a lot of things for class and myself but never thought of where creativity came from or how we're creative. I guess I was still thinking inside the box then so I think from now on I'll think more critically and also try to find creativity in the things around me.

ReplyDeletethis was a one my favorite classes hear at de anza, and i know this will be one class i will never forget. this class has opened up a whole new view on life for me, and one thing i will take from this class is when i look at art pieces, i dont just see a painting or a photo, i look at who made it and why they took the time to create it. when i see somthing different or creative in my eyes i wont just see and object, im going to see the reason why it was made. my look out on life will be why things are they are and reflect on my own creativty and remember why i created it. to me thats the real beauty of life and the creativity that has been installed into it..
thank you for a wonderfull quarter Ms. Sanders!! i had a blast! hope you have a wonderful time during the holidays<3
-Aly rajah
Coming into this class i never thought i would be challenged to look at things differently. I always stook to my opinions but this class taught me that there is a life outside my own. People have different opinions, therefore there will always be discussion. I liked how most of the class was about debates. One thing i will surely take away will be thinking critically, questioning why? how? and explore elsewhere. Most of all this class taught me that I AM creative even though i may not think i am. And that any obstacle put in front of my creativity i can exploit it. Life lessons are least expected to be thought in classes. One thing is for sure im leaving this class a different person from day one. Thanks Ms. Sanders for teaching this class with passion.
ReplyDeleteBecause of this class, I see things around me through a different perspective. Many of us are not aware of the creative process that went through a persons mind to create such objects. We just see things as "things", but when something new and exciting is made, we see it as "Wow, that's creative". We are not aware that everything around us used to be in someone's imagination.

oh my god...seriously, I just can't believe this quarter is going to be end soon. Erin, by taking this class, I learn how to think positively and to believe myself as a creative person. I did my best to participate on class discussions and I really enjoyed listening to your lectures. as I told you beginning of this class, this is my 4th quarter at De Anza, and whole this time I have met only two lecturers, who were nice, kind, well-dressed and knew what they are doing. You are one of them and other one is my EWRT teacher. Thank you so much Erin to dedicate your valuable time to teach us. Happy Holidays Erin and class..
ReplyDeleteNipuni, Gurunnaselage Dona.
This has been a great class. One thing I will take with me is knowing that everyone is creative in their own way, not just your Einsteins and Picassos. With that in mind, everyone has a chance to create something beneficial to someone else. If not now, maybe in the future. A person should feel good about their creativity because that is a trait everyone has. That is something very important that i took from this class.
ReplyDeletethis class was... interesting to say the least. definitely not what i expected it to be but it was fun. ive learned many things and will use them as i go through school. the one thing that i will remember most is that creativity is in everything and we are all creative in our own ways. all we need to do is believe and be confident in ourselves and we can do/be anything.
ReplyDeleteaww this class was awesome! well... the one thing i think i will take from this class is the fact that i am actually intelligent. i always thought intelligence was based on your I.Q but it is actually about being good at things like bodily kinesthetics. i feel so smart now! thank you Ms. Sanders for being such a hella good ass teacher =) you are totally fierce :).
ReplyDeleteThis class is such an unforgettable one which makes me feel more confident to answer anyone when he/she asks me "Are you intelligent". Yeah, Iam. I absolutely got the reason why I'm here, why I do daily things thanks to the existential intelligence. The intelligent girl has intelligent classmates and intelligent instructor. Thank you so much Ms. Sander for being so enthusiastic.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very interesting class to me because I never knew that creativity could go so far in our daily lives. I never found myself creative until this class told me that it doesn't take a high I.Q. to make someone creative. Just having a passion for something and bringing that passion to the outer limits make you creative. Just knowing that anyone one of us is creative makes me feel that anything is possible.
ReplyDeleteThis class was a very fun class. It was filled with less bookwork and more critical thinking and interacting. What I have learned in this class is that we believe anyone can be creative, but we did not notice that there are obstacles and limits to creativity due to boundaries. We ourselves have these boundaries and doing the final project made me realize that. We should defy all our boundaries and let our creativity be limitless. A lot of people are successful because they are creative. We should always do what we enjoy and not let anyone judge or stop us.
ReplyDelete-tina kha
Well this class really open my mind on the way to think about creativity. Before the class start, I think creativity should be something relate to art, however when I have been through this quarter I realize that I can be creative person as any other person too. It's really change the way of my mind. Creativity can be anything in our daily life and any one can do -so do I. finally, thanks Erin and class is fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for teaching us so many things. This class was very fun and interesting. Never fell asleep nor missed many days.I always looked forward to your class because you made us participate everyday. I will take with me that everyone is creative in their own way, even me and how you can take a simple/orginal idea and turn it into something that can be amazing. Also you taught us always to think outside of the box and how you always ask a lot of question to make us think even deeper if that makes any sense. Thank you and I am going to recommend you to all my friends!
ReplyDelete-Kirk saechao
If I could pick one thing I've learned in this class, it'd have to be that creativity bears no single definition, but rather that creativity is everything we are and everything we do, and by the end of all of our lives, we'll all have our very own personalized definition of creativity. Thanks for a great class
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed learning about the aspects of creativity. I learned that creativity comes in several different forms, can be accepted and rejected by many types of people, and everything is creative in its own way. I felt like I had a lot of creative boundaries before I came to this class and I feel like I am leaving with none. This class gave me the confidence to be more open-minded and gives me the courage to try new things in life. Thanks for being the best teacher and have a great holiday season!

ReplyDeleteThe one thing that will stick with me for most likely the rest of my life, is knowing that every one is creative in their own way. I often judge people by their looks and personality but what I never truly realized up until this quarter, was the fact that every one that I judge is creative in some way. It doesn't matter how narrow the field of their creativity is, our creativity as a species is almost infinite. For all we know a homeless man in San Francisco has brilliant architectural plans to redesign union square. Or someone who doesn't speak english that takes the bus everyday has revolutionary ideas on how to improve the bus system while saving costs. I have definitely learned to respect people a lot more and be open minded toward their ideas.
Oh and this class was very fun. Not because it was easy, but because with all the fun physical activities that we did it made it easier to committ the things I learned to my long term memory. As opposed to arts history..... I already forgot the material from 3 weeks ago.
Oh and I also forgot to compliment your tatts. The apple is a sick idea. (Being you are a teacher)
Your a great teacher and the table actually did pay attention. What ill take from this class is always to look at ideas/objects at a different light. How you see something might not be the way it was intended to be seen.
ReplyDeleteP.S when are you going to add Eric on Facebook? Thanks for a great quarter.
You are a great teacher, like Cody it might seem that we dont pay attention but we do! I'm not gonna lie I suck at taking tests, no matter how much i study its just hard for me to take tests, but the way you described critical thinking helped me out. Now i know my test scores dont prove that but once i start thinking about why and how something works it helps me remembering it. I always heard that everyone is creative in their own way but now i see how that is possible.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great class and finally i post in this blog!
Coming into this class at the beginning of the quarter, i really didn't know what to expect. At the end i learned more than i thought i would. Some of the things include the rules and functions of creativity. I also learned a lot about some old school philosophers as well. But one thing that i will take with me from this class is that there is no exact definition of creativity. And because there is no definition, it means that anyone has the ability to be creative. Knowing that fact gives me confidence that i can be creative as well. I started to see that there is a lot of things i do everyday that is creative. Because of this class, i've learned to think outside the box and appreciate creativity shown by other people and myself. Thanks Ms. Sanders!
ReplyDeleteThis class gave me an entirely new perspective on creativity, and I will leave this class with more open-mindedness about the world than ever before. Thank you for showing us that window for us to step through as we find out that even the most ordinary person is creative in some way. I've also learned in this class to appreciate every type of creativity from the past the present and the upcoming future.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You are an awesome teacher!
-Katherine Chung
Before coming to this class, I didn’t know that creativity could be that interesting. This class didn’t only teach me about the definition, the history or the difference between traditions vs. modern, but it also influences to be more opened-mind. Thanks to this class, I have started thinking outside of the box. Moreover, I practice and apply thinking critically into every subject that I study. The part that I feel most interested in is “the obstacles of the creativity”. Sometimes, I just didn’t realize these limitations until I got a chance to study. I also realize that the more hardship I have, the more ambitious I get to do. Lastly, with the contribution of such an intelligent teacher and a great number of creative people in our class, I have such a great time both for studying and gaining more experience to improve my creativity.

ReplyDeleteOne thing I would take with me from this class is that everyone can be creative. Before this class, I always thought I wasn't creative at all. In my mind, i thought that being creative meant being good at art or music. With this class i know that anyone can be creative. Everyone is creative in a way. When we pick out the clothes we wear, we are being creative. With that in mind, i have more coinfidence in myself and i should push myself in what i believe no matter what boundaries i may run into. This class has also gotten me to be "thinking outside the box" this is essential to solving those tricky puzzles or riddles. I also like the thought of "flow"
ReplyDelete---Mark Eroles
There are plenty of things I have learned in this class that I'd take with me, but the most important I think is that there is really no wrong answer when it comes to creativity. In preschool, kids are allowed to be creative and do whatever they want. The curriculum revolves around arts and craft with a few ABCs and 123s here and there. As we progress through the education system, we tend to do things that are less creative and start learning about things with one right answer...A equals B and so on. After twelve years of school, it almost becomes second nature that if an answer is not in a textbook, it is not the correct one. That's the mindset I had coming into this class.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this class. You taught the material and presented the concepts of creativity in a not so "dry" manner. I cannot remember a single time when one of us responded with an answer to a question you asked, and you replied with a "No, that is not correct." During our group discussions, you inspired us to be creative without the fear of our ideas being "rejected." You know those classes where the teacher asks a question and no one raises their hand? NOT THIS CLASS!
Once again, thank you. I really enjoyed this class. If only you taught other classes that are related to my major....
Awwwww this class was fun, even though it was hella early!!! Well what i really liked about this class, was about all this process of taking a piece of information in to a more specific idea! i usually when i'm responding to something, i will answer them just briefly, without hurting my head!! i think that i will use this experience to reenforce my critical thinking, not only at school but for my entire life in general!
ReplyDeleteThank you so muuuuch professor!! Happy holidays!
I can't believe this class is over already. Erin, I'm grateful that I got to take both of your classes here at De Anza(: you're such a wonderful teacher and thank you for always making learning fun! All the laughs helped me get through the mornings each day also.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'll take from this class is the idea of critical thinking and the concept of flow. I'm definitely going to continue to think outside of the box to solve problems. I'm so used to just thinking of one straight "correct" answer, rather than thinking of a million answers and possibilities to that problem. Also, I'm going to continue to use the concept of flow to be successful. So any time I need to motivate myself to do something (especially homework), and I get stuck, I can just think about a set goal and do whatever it takes for me to achieve that specific goal. That'll definitely help me be successful throughout my life.
Thank you again, and happy holidays! <3
I'm going to take from this class the idea of thinking before I say something. Usually I just say what is on my mind and in some situations I have to be counscious on whats limiting me on what I should and shouldn't say.
ReplyDeleteNow it's time to part and I know you are going to miss me very much!!! HAHA admit it! maybe now we can become facebook friends!
This class is pretty cool and fun. I learn lots of things. I like the presentation so much because it's very creative and every one in this class are creative. So one thing that I will take away with me from this class is the phrase of "every one can be creative" the most important thing I ever learn from this class, because I can see that student in this class are try their best to be creative and the final boundaries extra credit presentation is amazing.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I will take with me from this course out into my life is to always apply the 5 rules of creativity. I also learned that everybody can be creative. I have learned to be confident in myself and try anything i feel it is creative without wondering what people will think because there are some people who will criticize your creativity and there are others who will admire it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Erin for being a good teacher and your patience to us all. This class was indeed a great one :) gillian kpodjie
This has been the most chill class of all my classes at de anza. One thing I will take away from this course is that everyone is creative. The world usually appoints an artist as the creative person and not the director. I learned from this class that creativity comes from all individuals and in all circumstances from dancing, music, art to writing, math, and science etc. With this instilled in my knowledge, I will go on with my life knowing that I am a creative individual.
ReplyDelete-Jason Lagao
haha well first of all i can honestly say this is in the top two, of the most exciting & fun classes i've ever taken at de anza! Your by far like the most coolest & chill and teacher i've ever had. To answer your question well i know for sure i will at things differently and observe the detail. Don't look at anything face value...You will get the highest ratings possible on "ratemyprofessor.com" hahaha! But i think probaly the most important thing i will take form yout class is: when im tryin to talk to someone/ppl and they don't listen, i'll just start dancing in front of them, until i get there attention! haha! ABSOLUTELY LOVED your class!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful course! Honestly, coming into this class, I thought it was just going to be another GE class and something to boost my GPA. I didnt expect to gain anything from this class, but to my surprise, it was quite the opposite. I learned what is the basic and most fundamental part of all the life to come: creativity. I will take this concept with me to throughout the rest of my life. Thanks again professor!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I will probably take from this class is, never to doubt your own creative nature. At first I only assumed creativity to stem from things such as paintings or inventions, but its truly more than what people generalize creativity to be. After these 12 weeks I now see creativity as the idea of anything. We think creatively no matter what we think of.
ReplyDeleteOverall this has been a very fun class to be a part of and I am without a doubt happy to have taken this course. Thanks professor Sanders! Your class was one that I will surely miss.
This class is was fun to be in. One thing I will always take with me from this class is that everything I do or create will be creative in some way. I honestly isn't realize how creative everything can be in life up until i took this class. It was great being in the class and meeting new people. Thanks for a great class. Take care y'all
ReplyDeleteComing into this class I had no idea what we would be learning about. I know the class was called creative minds but I still dsnt know what we would be learning. I always thought to be creative you had to be good at a specific skill like drawing but what I've learned from this class was that anyone and anything can be creative. By using the five stages of creativity one can show people their creativity and though it may not seem creative to who ever sees it or hears it, it's still considered because it has follower the five stages of creativity. One other thing that I will take from this class is the concept of flow. I've alway been the type of person to finish what I have started but I've always taken breaks in between and not completely focused on something straight through, so by learning the concept of flow I've been able, well little by little to stick with an activity without taking a break. This has helped me very much and has safed me alot more time to do other things I need to get done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Erin for making class interesting and enertaining. I really enjoyed each and every day. Happy Holidays!
-Athena Reclusado
When i signed up for this class i thought that we were going to be looking at and studying art work. I thought that because to me that's what i considered being creative. So one thing that i took from this class that that everyone is creative in their own way. There is no exact definition on what creativity is or can be. When i first started this class i didnt see myself as being creative. But now i think differently, everyone is creative including me. I enjoyed coming to this class every morning. Thanks erin for making this class fun!
