But What Is It?

According to Weiner (in pages 8-12) what exactly is creativity? Is there a single definition? Link to something on the web you think is creative!

  1. I think that Weiner thinks that there is no definitive answer for what creativity is because it is too vague, and what might seem creative to one person, might not seem the same way to another person. He goes about saying how it is we are supposed to understand creativity when we don't really have a standard solid definition of it. He comes up with saying that we can understand creativity more by defining what it is not, therefore if we know what it is not then we have a narrower list of things that creativity could then be.

I think that this new pizza slicer is pretty creative, because not only does it make cutting pizza easier, it makes it more hygienic when you are serving other people pizza since you aren't using your own hands to put the pizza on their plates.

  2. According to Weiner, there is no one definition for creativity. He says creativity can be anything as long as it comes "with investigation and changing ideas." He also says that there are differences of quality or degree of creativity, meaning that what some might find creative, others might find useless or bizzare.

  3. I believe that Weiner is saying that there is no exact way to define creativity. That creativity is "'remarkable agreement among creative individuals and psychologists as to how the process of creativity is to be described'". Meaning that there are many different ways to point out creativity from many different views.

I believe that this site is creative in the sense that not only does it deliver news, but it ranks the types of things that most people want to read or hear about. Things that they believe is relevant to them. A site which I myself use daily.

  4. I agree with megan on Weiner's writing,as long as there is an investigation and changin ideas, it creativity however creativity is universal. Not everyone sees other differences as unique, its opinion based. Although that is what makes creativity go around.

The way she is able to move and coryograph her performances are just mezmorizing to me

  5. Personally, I think this thesis in class for Weiner's definition was the best "creativity can be anything, but it comes with imagination and changing ideas.

  6. Weiner believes that creativity is undefinable.
So many people have tried to define the word "creativity", but what so creative about it if there's a set of rules and regulations for being "creative".

  7. There are so many different interpretations of creativity that there is no real defined "definition". Creativity is our future, for without creativity, we will see nothing new nor experience anything new.

    http://www.saintwoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/The+Bloody+Beetroots+TBB.jpg

Where I see the most frequent creativity is in music. Attached is a photo of what I consider to be my inspiration to be creative. The Bloody Beetroots are DJ's from Italy who brought a whole new sound to electronic music. They have successfully combined the lifestyle and feel of hardcore and punk music and integrated it with the sounds and effects of electronic music. Whenever I think of creative music, these guys are the first to come to mind.

  8. Like weiner says, time is changing and it is hard to tell what is next. Because future is all about imagination. And creations are work of imaginative people who has determinate enough to make things happen. Like we can not border people's imagination we can not border creativity with definitions. It depends on each person's perception.

I do oil painting and I think Salvador Dali is a great imaginative painter. As he is a surrealist, you can see the human mind, ideas, creativity (obviously) very dramatic, very impressive...

  10. Weiner feels that creativity is undefinable, because humanity in our entire existence has not been able to develop a single, constant definition for what exactly creativity is.

I find creativity in the area of music as well, because music in itself is a creative outlet, but this particular video I found is an absolute favorite of mine and I feel is truly creative in itself, because it combines two different forms and elements of music and blends them together into one single, amazing performance. It's a piece called "Robot Remains" by The Bangerz, a DJ Group, but this special performance is their collaboration with San Jose Taiko. It took place at the Sub Zero Festival on June 4, 2010:

  11. I believe that Weiner says there is no concrete definition of creativity; That it all depends on what the person views as creative. With so many people with their ideas of creativity, its hard to generally define creativity.

When I think of creativity, I think things that are different and appealing to my eye. Like this!:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMX2bVRycZc

This is personally one of my favorite teams, and a team I'd hope to join in the future. Although they got second place in this competition, Choreo Cookies are an amazing team. They use every beat they hear and match it with clean sharp movements. This set was my favorite of the competition, not because of my bias, but because of the different concepts they had throughout the entire medley. Enjoy!

  12. Weiner says that there is no precise single definition of creativity and that if he were to do so then he would be jumping the gun so to speak because creativity is such a broad subject. Although he does not give a precise definition he does say that creativity is many faced and that it's a special phenomenon. What I also found interesting is that he says creativity and tradition are in perpetual conflict.

Also I think that creativity is a matter of perspective so it's hard to say there is one single definition that fits what everyone thinks is creative.

So now what I think is creative is an animation created by c4 studio called Kigeki(comedy). It's art and animation is beautifully done. The music fits perfectly as well and it's art style makes it more unique simply for it's not the style you see in mainstream animation. I thought it was creative that they used the setting when Ireland was in war for independence.

  13. According to Weiner, there is no set definition for creativity. Everyone has their own views & what one may find creative, another may not.

I find this wedding proposal creative because its not just usual 'dinner, get down on one knee, will you marry me," type thing. He actually goes above& beyond by taking her back to the place they first met, getting other people involved, adding singing& dancing (another way to express creativity) & doing it at one of the most creative places you could go to.

  15. Weiner express the complexity and simplicity of creativity. creativity is both complex to the extreme and simplest in the smallest way. creativity can be defined in any way anything would like it to be. therefore creativity can be technically anything that was created because creativity, a description, depends on ones perspective. since we all have our own minds and they vary in many ways we cant put an exact definition on creativity.

    http://russfoxx.com/blog/magnetic-vision-implanted

when you look at what i linked before you pass judgment remember what creativity is. first let me describe what this is. a body modifier ( tattoos, piercings, other type of mods etc) implanted a strong magnet in his finger, by doing this he can feel magnetic fields by the reaction the magnet has in his finger. in essence he can detect magnetic fields. almost like a super power.
this is creative because who in their right mind would think to put a magnet in their finger.

  16. Weiner thinks that there is no concert definition for creativity. That everything is different and creative in its own way and that we all think of creativity differently. He says at that something that might seem creative to one person, might not seem that way to the other person.

  19. According to Weiner, creativity can be viewed in many different perspectives and that creativity is something each person has to observe on their own, sometimes it's so obvious that something is creative that we just know it is without having to explain oneself. Creativity surrounds us.

  21. Weiner said that there is no real definition for creativity. Some people think that being creative is something that comes from a traditional or normal idea. Others will think that everybody has their own way of being creative. Just like when we did the Multiple Intelligences activity in class. In my opinion, I think that anybody can be creative in their own way. You don't need to come up with a BIG idea to be creative, but even as we did in class the other day, just solving our own little problems.

Here I think that this shows creativity. I still wonder how he can talk through puppets like that. Lol Jeff Dunham is fucking HILARIOUSS!!! Enjoy!

  22. Creativity has a plethora of various interpretations, and one cannot define Creativity with a single phrase. I like to view it as the most essential part of the human race. I fear that without creativity, the world we view today would be altered to an extreme extent. Creativity fuels technological advancements and scientific/medical breakthroughs. All in all, it is what drives us to become more.

My link may not seem very special to the untrained eye, but I believe this song contains loads of creativity. The lyrics are very poetic, and its mixed with a soothing melody and nice harmony. The cool part about this song is that there are so many interpretations of it. Mine is that the guy is trying really hard to get back a relationship that he blew. He is 'chasing the ghost' of something in the past. He's trying to fit the pieces into where they don't belong - metaphorical for how he wants to restore his relationship, but it simply can't be done.

  23. Creativity I agree is hard to define because there are so many answers and not one real answer!! Many people mistake creativity as only being related to art music and literature but there are so many more ways to be creative besides art. Creativity is everywhere and everything comes from creativity. :) Creativity is a function that only humans possess.

I am not a huge fan to Lady Gaga, but her outfits are really creative and her musis is as well. She is a big hit this year and its only because of her creative sense of music n fashion
This video is creatively produced :

  25. As Weiner said in his book, "Creativity" appears as many faces and aspects. Everybody tastes and judges it in their own ways depends on their personality, educational levels and other affects from public. For example, Lady Gaga seems like the most creative person in my eyes because she always comes up with new and strange style outfits on the stage. However, according to my friend, she thought that Lady Gaga is such a clumsy doll wearing many rubbish accessories and recycled clothes. Furthermore, "creativity" is changing over and over time. However, to be "creative in anyway", everything needs to be go through the process: "preparation", "incubation", "illumination", elaboration" and "implementation. Sometimes, many creativities occur organically.

These pictures are the most creative things that I have never seen before. Even though the painter wanted to express his fears of some normal issues such as: high-technologies and culture, he chose the most surrealist and fragile way to paint and show off his ideas.

  27. Weiner states that there is no one exact definition for creativity. His views on creativity range from a variety of things from creating something completely new, to taking something that has already been created, but making it better. He also states that we must understand the context in which something is labeled as creative; however, the context in which we live changes everyday.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5CqE3rPxEY

I'm pretty sure some of you have seen this, but I thought these guys were pretty cool. They're not the original people who thought up of the idea, but they took the idea of the theme and it made it better. The idea is similar to that of Matrix Ping Pong on a Japanese game show, which I believe were the first people to come up with the general idea.

  28. I think Weiner is trying to say that there is no real definition to creativity. One person may think somethig is creative while the next person doesn't. It all depends on how you see things because every individual has a different perspective on what creativity is.

  29. According to Weiner, there is no single definition of creativity. He mentions that there are different ways of looking at creativity and that the definition of it is not valid in all cultures. 36. According to Weiner, there is no exact definition of creativity, because not only does it depend on someone's own perspective of what's creative, but that creativity should be define as what it is not. 39. There could never be a single definition for creativity. Creativity is everything, items you believe are not creative doesn't mean another person does. When life began there was nothing, but what nature giving them. The use of a stick to get food or a rock as a weapon was extremely creative to them but not to us now. So to have a single definition would be impossible.

So, after skimming through some of the answers on here, I have to agree that Weiner states that there is not a single definite definition (sounds redundant, I know xD) for the idea of creativity. The perspective of creativity is so different from each human because we all do NOT think the same way. If we did...that would be kind of creepy. xD
